Primary objective
Responsible for coordinating the clinical functions of the Child and Youth Mental Health Team including supervision of Financial and
Human Resources and the delivery of services to the client group.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide clinical leadership and human resource management of a multi-disciplinary community child and youth mental health team,
including carrying a clinical caseload as required.
2. Manage triage of referrals, client acuity and the interface with community service providers in line with the Choice and Partnership
Approach (CAPA), alongside ensuring evidence based culturally safe service delivery.
1. Promoting the use of best practice models, provide and facilitate supervision and oversight of team activities while ensuring effective
outcomes for consumers and carers, and making sure the team are able to adequately manage the demand for service.
1. Promote collaborative partnerships in service delivery with relevant agencies, community organisations, consumers, carers and internal
stakeholders; attend external and internal meetings related to partnership development for services across health.
5. Develop and review policies, protocols and procedures, contribute to and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
activities and promote service delivery in line with the National Mental Health Strategy and the NSQHS.
1. Consider innovative partnership models, including development of shared care models and the communication systems required.
2. Manage team resources as a cost centre manager, monitor the team budget, and develop cost efficiencies to stay within the budget.
3. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Meet the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) requirements to practice as a Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse
or Occupational Therapist, or requirements for full membership with AASW as a qualified Social Worker.
2. Demonstrated advanced level of clinical skills with recent clinical experience working with children and young people with complex
mental health needs, including familiarity with attachment and family systems work.
1. Demonstrated leadership, clinical management and team development skills with an emphasis on integrated service provision.
2. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and protocols with a focus on improved consumer outcomes, including
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), implementation of the National Mental Health Standards and service improvement activity.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary financial and Human Resources Management issues, including WHS risk management
processes and other relevant legislative frameworks.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of the complexities facing Aboriginal people in Central Australia, and evidence of effective and respectful
working relationships with people from diverse cultures, incl evidence of providing cultural safe practice and/or management.
1. Demonstrated proficiency and commitment to the use of electronic information systems for maintaining service-delivery records.
Desirable
1. Recognised postgraduate mental health and/or management qualifications.
2. Recent experience working within or managing a community child and youth mental health team.
