Job Overview
The Operations Manager reports to a senior manager and is responsible for managing on-ground operations across a large area, implementing partnerships with local communities and delivering effective conservation outcomes.
This role collaborates with ecologists and community teams to deliver effective conservation across a vast region. Key success metrics include species populations/indicators; reduction of threatening processes (wildfire, feral animals, invasive weeds); partner collaboration and engagement; cost efficiency; and program compliance.
You will lead conservation teams, ensuring alignment between land management, science and partnership activities as part of a national approach. Responsibilities include:
* Plan, coordinate and lead on-ground conservation activities (feral control, weed management, fire management) within budget and according to science-based strategies.
* Direct resources and personnel (staff, contractors and volunteers) across remote locations and quality-assure deliverables.
* Collaborate with ecologists to integrate land management, science and partnerships.
* Engage and advocate with partners, stakeholders and supporters; contribute to communications efforts.
* Manage finances, prepare reports, and monitor expenditures.
* Ensure compliance with permits, reporting, and contract management; maintain records and data.
This role involves fieldwork in remote locations, often outdoors in extreme weather, with potential periods of office work for planning and supervision. Physical capability may be required for lifting, carrying and other tasks.
Requirements
Applicants should have experience in outdoor work, preferably in leadership roles, and skills in communication, relationship-building and team management. Certificates, licenses and training will be provided, including valid manual driver's licence, Remote Senior First Aid certificate, current Police clearance certificate and valid firearms licence (highly desirable).
