Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Coordinator
Commencing January 2026 offering flexible working days and hours (at 0.5FTE)
Immanuel Lutheran College is seeking an experienced and proactive Work Health and Safety Coordinator to assist in the management and coordination of our whole of College WHS function. In this newly created role, you will be able to create, lead and help design the safety framework, culture and education of the College in all things WHS. With a leadership team that embraces the 'student first, safety always' philosophy, you will be surrounded by like-minded people.
This is a key professional role that works closely with the Director of People and Culture, Head of Business Operations, the Principal, College leadership and operational teams to ensure a safe, compliant and thriving workplace for our students, staff and wider community.
You will play a central role in shaping and strengthening our safety culture while ensuring the College meets its obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act & Regulations 2011 Queensland and relevant standards and codes of practice.
What you'll be doing
* Provide expert WHS advice to College leadership
* Coordinate and maintain WHS systems, policies and registers
* Manage risk assessments, inspections and audits
* Investigate incidents and lead corrective actions
* Oversee workers compensation and return to work processes
* Coordinate WHS training and inductions
* Monitor compliance and contractor requirements
* Support emergency management and continuous improvement
* Be a proactive member of the College WHS Committee
* Report on WHS performance and trends
What we're looking for
* Qualification in Work Health and Safety such as Certificate IV, Diploma, Degree or equivalent experience
* Proven experience in a WHS Advisor, Coordinator or similar role
* Strong knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 in Queensland
* Experience managing risk registers, audits, inspections and incident investigations
* Ability to communicate and engage confidently with staff at all levels
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* A proactive and solutions focused mindset
* Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
* Confidence delivering training and influencing safe work practices
* A current Blue Card or ability to obtain one
