Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer for Mercer Super, the Head of Compliance is a leadership role responsible for navigating regulatory complexities and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. Key responsibilities include overseeing breach assessments, maintaining the obligations library, and acting as the Conflicts Officer for Mercer Super.
This critical leadership position in the Line 2 Mercer Super risk team requires experience in the superannuation sector. While previous leadership experience is preferred, exceptional candidates seeking their first leadership role are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have strong risk and compliance knowledge, resilience, change management skills, and the ability to handle challenging conversations constructively, always prioritising members’ interests.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead, mentor, and develop the Compliance team, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth.
2. Set high standards for conduct and work, exemplifying best practices in compliance management.
3. Provide expert compliance advice and support to Line 1 business units, managing compliance and regulatory risks effectively.
4. Oversee the obligations register within the GRC system, ensuring it is comprehensive and fit for purpose.
5. Review incidents and breach assessments, collaborating with colleagues to escalate concerns appropriately.
6. Build strong relationships with stakeholders, presenting compliance plans and updates to senior management and committees.
Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in a business-related discipline.
* Extensive experience in compliance or legal roles within financial services, preferably in superannuation.
* 2-3 years of relevant compliance experience with a proven track record.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
