In Open Space Operations, we work together to maintain and enhance our natural and built environment - keeping our community safe while preserving the beauty of our region.
Open Space Operations Includes Two Teams
The Open Space Maintenance Team, responsible for turf and parks maintenance across the Shire The Vegetation Maintenance Team, delivering works aligned to the Tree Risk Management Plan and Road Management Plan
As a Vegetation Maintenance Officer, you’ll be part of a supportive and respectful crew, contributing to the care and management of trees and vegetation across our region. Your day might include working outdoors with your team, maintaining vegetation along roadsides and public spaces, and helping create a safer, greener environment for the community.
You’ll also have opportunities to build your skills, expand your qualifications and grow your career in arboriculture, supported by experienced team members who value knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
What You Will Bring To The Role
We are seeking a Vegetation Maintenance Officer with strong arboriculture skills, a safety-first mindset, and a genuine commitment to enhancing our environment and community.

Key selection criteria
Mandatory Qualifications, Experience And Requirements
Certificate 3 in Arboriculture (Qualification Check conducted) and/or several of years of relevant experience in Parks and Open Space / Arboriculture roles. Current medium rigid driver’s licence. Chainsaw level 2. An industry card. Experience in a Local Government environment. Current Victorian driver’s licence. A current Working With Children Check You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council). A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
