Merit lists or pools
Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy, may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role, without the need to reapply. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months.

You will work in a dynamic environment to provide effective ICT security solutions, including security compliance, security audits and security education to support DSTG outcomes that impacts Defence capability.
Role includes:
- Interpret security policy to create and maintain ICT authorisation documentation artefacts to achieve and retain ICT accreditation for multiple Information Systems.
- Responsible for robust ICT security assurance through the conduct of continuous monitoring activities within strict timeframes.
- Identify, document, and control cyber security risks associated with the Information Systems under your purview, ensuring the continued confidentiality, integrity, and availability of each system.
- Responsible for management and execution of cyber security incident response activities and documentation.
- Effectively communicate complex concepts, risks, and ICT security requirements to the system owner, managers, peers, and other stakeholders.
- Perform as an ICT security subject matter expert.
- Assisting the Facility Security Manager with management of a secure facility.
- Effectively manage workloads, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines to deliver outcomes.
- Perform out of hours On Call responsibilities requiring reliable transportation due to work site attendance required within a minimum timeframe.
- Travel interstate when required.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. We integrate inputs from DSTG’s emerging and critical technology analysts, intelligence technology analysts, and international partner collaborations in technology foresight, to provide advice to Defence on Innovation, Science & Technology (IS&T;) threats and opportunities from disruptive technologies.
We operate in a classified workplace and provide Physical security, ICT security, workplace health and safety, and infrastructure support for DSTG’s research facilities. This enables the Research & Development (R&D;) projects conducted by DSTG scientists to develop technology for advanced Defence capabilities. We also advise and support the R&D; projects provided by industry, academia and other external research organisations for the program. Our team grips up the various projects, to concentrate on the overall program to operationalise R&D; and realise impact for Defence capability.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our successful candidate will possess skills and experience in some of the following areas:
- International standards including National Institute of Standards and Technology 800-53.
- Performing vulnerability management, identifying and defending against threats and continuous monitoring of information technology environments.
- Analysis of information systems logs identifying security vulnerabilities and recommending actions to remediate.
- Comfortable operating independently with minimal supervision or as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to produce high quality documentation, high quality reports, correspondence and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience in time management, planning and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply sound judgement to complete complex tasks within tight deadlines.
- Be flexible, adaptive and resilient in a fast-paced and sometimes changing environment.
Security Clearance:
Prior to commencement, successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process. As a Positive Vetting clearance is required, applicants must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.
