AIRWAY is seeking a reliable, hands-on Leading Hand to join our dynamic team at our Melbourne Airport facility.
This role is ideal for an experienced airfreight operator who enjoys being on the floor, supporting the team, and ensuring daily operations run smoothly in a fast-paced environment. With AM and PM shifts available, this is a great opportunity to step into a leadership role without moving away from hands-on operations.
The Role
As a Leading Hand, you will support the Supervisory team and play a key role in coordinating daily warehouse and airfreight activities. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Supporting the Supervisor with day-to-day operational coordination
* Acting as a point of contact for operational queries during your shift
* Leading by example on the warehouse floor to meet airline cut-off times
* Coordinating the receipting, loading, unloading, packing, and unpacking of air cargo
* Ensuring all cargo is Security Cleared and meets Quarantine requirements prior to dispatch
* Monitoring safe work practices and reporting hazards or incidents
About You – Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you will bring:
* Experience handling perishable cargo and/or cold chain logistics (highly regarded)
* A current ASIC card (or the ability to obtain one)
* A valid forklift licence with practical operating experience
* Physical fitness and the ability to meet manual handling requirements
* A hands-on, dependable approach with emerging leadership capability
* A strong focus on safety, compliance, and quality
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team
* A positive, approachable, and adaptable attitude
Desired:
* Fumigation licence
* Authority to Drive Airside (ADA)
* IATA Dangerous Goods Awareness, RACA, 77G Obligations or other industry accreditations will be highly regarded
* Advanced knowledge of OH&S regulations
