Job Overview

Division: Independent Public School – Kimberley Education Region
Salary: Level 2, $72,562 – $77,741 per annum (pro‐rated) (DOE (SSO) CA 2024)
Work Type: Fixed Term – Full Time, Fixed Term – Part Time, Permanent – Full Time, Permanent – Part Time

We are seeking to establish a pool of Laboratory Technicians for permanent and fixed‐term, full‐time and part‐time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of teaching staff, the Laboratory Technician will support the preparation of chemicals and equipment, and construction of simple apparatus for science classes. They will order supplies and equipment, monitor and manage stock levels, and perform basic repairs and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. The technician will construct teaching aids as required and is responsible for labelling, maintenance and safe storage of laboratory chemicals, equipment and resources, as well as safe disposal of chemical, physical and biological laboratory materials.

The role may also involve assisting with the coordination of the science budget, including monitoring expenditure, providing advice as required, and managing business card accounts in accordance with departmental financial guidelines.

Qualifications / Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience working within a science laboratory, including knowledge of laboratory techniques and relevant safety and legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated well‐developed keyboarding and computer skills including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

Eligibility

Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
