About the role

Reporting to the Lead Trader, and being supported and mentored by Trading team members, the Physical Markets Graduate will undergo a 6-month training program within Physical Markets, gaining exposure to various functions across Trading and Transition. Upon completion, the goal is to transition into a Physical Market Trader role, contributing to the dynamic and fast paced energy spot market operations. This is a permanent, ongoing chance.

Please note: Physical Markets operate a 24/7 roster as per requirements of the spot energy markets. As such there will be a requirement for nights and weekend work, for which there is compensation.

Responsibilities

- Utilise EnergyAustralia’s gas supply and transportation contracts to optimise gas portfolio in the Spot gas markets
- Dispatch EnergyAustralia’s electricity generation assets in the National Electricity Market to optimise the electricity portfolio
- Assist in developing spot strategies allowing for current portfolio, variable market conditions & competitor behaviour, commodity spark-spread to continually improve spot optimisation.
- Assist in developing new concepts, lateral solutions, and imaginative approaches to achieve optimal operational outcomes in an evolving and complex market.
- Assist with co-ordinating plant outages with the portfolio for optimal outcomes whilst ensuring spot market risk measures are met
- Analysis of key competitor behaviour in the wholesale spot markets effectively communicated to key stakeholders to improve short- and long-term decision making
- Support the development of small-scale computer-based tools to improve spot market optimisation, market, and competitor analysis
- Work closely with regulatory and compliance teams, assets, and the market operator to assist EA’s compliance in energy markets

About you

You will have the following qualifications, skills, and interests:

- Tertiary qualifications in a numeric discipline Engineering, Science, Finance or Economics, minimum Distinction average (please provide academic transcript and resume)
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, with proven advanced Excel skills
- Exposure to SQL, Tableau, VBA, R and Python is advantageous.
- A particular interest in learning and developing within the Australian Energy Markets during a pivotal transitional phase
- Conceptual thinker and able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances a key feature of the dynamic wholesale energy markets
- Working experience preferred, not essential
- Strong team ethos and natural ability to support overall effectiveness of the business by modelling behaviours consistent with company values
