City Plan Planning (CPP) is a boutique, full‑service town planning consultancy delivering tailored solutions across planning reports, site feasibilities, development applications, and strategic guidance for regulatory authorities. Our work spans everything from high‑rise developments and shopping centres through to simple subdivisions and dual occupancies. Many clients rely on us from initial site acquisition through to plan‑sealing and final approvals.
The role being offered is flexible, well‑paid, and designed to complement your existing role rather than replace it. You'd work independently, providing succinct advice, reviewing reports, and assisting with targeted DA components.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner who is looking for a highly flexible, low‑hour contract arrangement — approximately 5-15 hours per week, with premium remuneration for the right expertise and scheduled around your existing commitments.
This role is ideal for someone who:
Already works in the industry (private or public sector)
Wants additional, meaningful consulting work
Values autonomy and minimal oversight
Prefers to work independently and efficiently
Appreciates discretion and a professional, trust‑based relationship
Is seeking meaningful consulting work alongside an existing role.
You can contribute as a contracting Senior Planner, providing succinct, high‑level advice and taking ownership of tasks in an independent capacity. You will not be micromanaged — we're looking for someone who can simply "slot in", deliver quality work, and enjoy the freedom of a consultancy‑style arrangement.
What You'll Do
Prepare and review planning reports and development application material
Undertake site assessments and due diligence
Provide clear, succinct planning advice and strategic input
Support selected stages of the development application process (scope agreed to match your availability)
What You Won't Do
Manage ongoing client relationships or stakeholder engagement
Liaise with local or state authorities unless you choose to
Commit to fixed hours, office attendance, or set availability windows
This is a genuinely flexible, advisory‑focused role.
Flexibility & Commitment
Work can be completed remotely, with optional access to our Gold Coast office.
CPP supports genuine work–life balance:
5–15 hours per week, fully flexible
Work anytime, from anywhere
No requirement to leave your current role
Discretion assured
Engagement structure tailored to your circumstances
This arrangement suits senior professionals who want to maintain their primary employment while taking on additional, well‑compensated consulting work.
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated experience in SEQ town planning — ideally with Gold Coast, Logan and/or Brisbane Councils
Strong understanding of land‑use planning frameworks and statutory processes
Excellent communication and report‑writing skills
Proven ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality outputs
Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline
PIA membership (or eligibility) is advantageous
Familiarity with SEQ planning schemes and state‑level legislation
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
How to apply
For a confidential conversation, email a one‑page CV and brief note of relevant SEQ experience to or message via LinkedIn. Please indicate your typical weekly availability and preferred hourly rate or fee expectations. Shortlisted candidates will be offered a 20–30 minute confidential call.
CPP is an equal‑opportunity consultancy and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds.
