Job Description
SGS is looking for a Microbiologist to manage and grow the hygiene and microbiological sections of the laboratory and to ensure that tests are carried according to NATA and / or client specifications.
Your key responsibilities in this role will include but are not limited to:
1. Undertake routine preparation and analysis for environmental samples.
2. Provide technical leadership and identify opportunities for obtaining optimum efficiency and productivity.
3. Monitor and report on the progress of work performed. Ensure the quality of data produced meets the standards of SGS’ quality policy, certification and stated data quality objectives.
4. To assist with further developing microbiological testing for the business.
5. Devise and perform developmental and validation work with new analytical methods and instrumentation to a level required to achieve NATA accreditation.
6. Maintain and update skills, qualifications and knowledge through courses and on the job training to support improvement
7. Assist management in promoting a safe working environment at all times.
8. Perform other duties required to ensure the smooth running of the section and to ensure the expected outputs are performed within budget.
9. To assist with microbiological related projects nationally if required.
10. To assist in training and further developing staff in relation to microbiological services.
11. Perform other duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
Qualifications
12. BSc and postgraduate diploma of microbiology, or equivalent industry experience.
13. Demonstrable commercial laboratory experience in environmental microbiology.
14. Previous NATA signatory or delegated NATA signatory status
15. Previous supervisory experience desirable.
16. Must be flexible to work afternoon shift from 11am to 7pm.
17. Must be available on weekends and occasionally Public Holidays
