Offer description

Be part of building a Welcoming and Thriving City.

The City of Canning is seeking a seasoned Principal Advisor Risk and Business Continuity to shape and strengthen the foundations that protect and enable our City to thrive.

This is more than a technical risk role. It is a strategic opportunity to embed a culture where risk is understood, owned and leveraged to make better decisions. Working alongside our Executive Team, with the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) and with Council, you will elevate our risk maturity, champion strong governance and ensure our business continuity capability is resilient, contemporary and aligned to our risk appetite.

If you are a trusted advisor who can think strategically, influence with confidence and inspire a proactive approach to risk and resilience in a complex environment, we invite you to join our team.

What you can expect to be doing

This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring strong technical expertise, excellent facilitation skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation. In this role you will have the opportunity to;

* Facilitate Executive risk reviews and maintain a centralised risk register.
* Support Council and the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee to articulate and monitor the City's risk appetite.
* Ensure fit for purpose, tested, Business Continuity, Crisis Incident Management and Disaster Recovery plans.
* Provide strategic advice to the Executive, to the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee and to Council, reporting on key risks, controls and mitigation strategies.
* Champion a risk-aware culture across the organisation through training, collaboration and capability uplift.
* Work closely with Internal Audit to ensure strong governance, compliance and continuous improvement.

About you

You can expect to leverage your significant experience, qualifications and your bias for action to lead important conversations with Executives about risks (known and emerging), business continuity and disaster recovery.

You have a practical approach and a genuine curiosity about the business which you use to establish and leverage relationships.

You work effectively, delivering outcomes as part of a small team, sharing your perspective and experience to educate others.

You will love working at Canning
