Registrar Surgical - Calvary Mater Newcastle

Job Description
This is a locum doctor role for a Surgery Registrar at Calvary Mater Newcastle in NSW. Travel neg for multiple shifts. Travel Cap $130/night. Surg Reg description – 2 years experience required in Surg.
* 3 Registrars during the day 0700 until they finish.
* One evening person 1500 until 2300 (sometimes longer to wrap up ED referrals).
* Generally 2 or 3 interns to cover the 3 teams.
* Surgeons – mixture depending on the day and if there are outpatient clinics, urgent lists or elective lists.
* Sometimes required to help plastics, cardiothoracics or even gynaecology.
* Surgeons take on-call for 7 days starting on a Monday morning.
* Roster as above.
* There is a surgeon on call but not present in the hospital during the day; overnight consultant also not present.
* The on-call overnight ) is taken in turns.
* If you get called in overnight you still have to start at 0700 if that day.
* Room to sleep in the hospital for these occasions in the back area of the JMO room.
* Plastics have their own registrars; cardiothoracic surgeons cover VATS cases and PPMs sometimes.
* For urology, vascular, cardiothoracics, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ENT, maxillofacial, trauma, ED/teams call the JHH directly.
* Weekends covered again by the rotation of the registrars.
* Cover from 0700 Saturday to 0700 Monday on call; can be selective on Sunday.
* High volume of medical oncology and haematology patients; complex on-call cases.
* Consultants expect complex cases; joint admissions help shared decision making.
