Overview
Sous Chef / Senior Chef position at Oceanfront Kiosk - Nest Kiosk, Kingston Park SA. We are a busy oceanfront kiosk serving all-day breakfast and lunch 7 days a week (7am to 3pm) with additional dinner service in peak season and occasional private events. You will be part of a small, energetic, creative and supportive kitchen team.
Job Title: Sous Chef / Senior Chef
Reports to: Head Chef
• Authority: Kitchen Team (Line Cooks, Chefs)
Job Type: Can commence as Casual, with a view to transition to Permanent, Full-Time (approx. 30–38 hours per week) if desired.
Salary: Competitive salary and bonus, in line with the Restaurant Industry Award. Salary to be confirmed based on experience. Guideline: Cook grade 4 (wage level 5); increases on weekends and public holidays.
Hours: 25 hours minimum, up to 38 hours per week. Hours may increase during peak Spring/Summer seasons, busy periods, and with expanded dinner service.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Head Chef with day-to-day kitchen operations, particularly during daytime service when the Head Chef is not present.
* Support dinner service and events/cocktail functions; delegate daily tasks and oversee food preparation.
* Lead and collaborate with Directors and Head Chef on daily specials and menu ideas for dinner service and events.
* Lead timely kitchen production while maintaining quality standards.
* Assist with training and development of the kitchen team and uphold quality standards.
* Assist in stock management and ordering.
* Assist in implementing and overseeing the food safety management system and hygiene standards.
* Participate in regular meetings to review quality, budget, service and staff standards, providing constructive feedback.
Qualifications and Skills
* Relevant experience in a fast-paced, quality-driven kitchen; previous Sous/Senior Chef experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
* 1–2 years of experience in a similar cafe/kiosk environment preferred.
* Strong culinary knowledge, creativity and passion for food.
* Excellent communication, organisation and forward planning skills.
* Commitment to training, mentorship and staff development.
* Ability to thrive in a busy environment with composure under pressure.
* Commitment to quality and consistency; growth mindset and positive approach.
* Flexible availability, including weekends (at least one day), evenings (approximately 4pm–9pm), events and public holidays as required.
* Full, current, clean driver's license.
Additional Information
Position can start after successful trial shifts, with training shifts to follow. Full capacity hours to commence in early to mid-October 2025.
