The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a leading role in the design and delivery of Aquatec's complex water and wastewater projects. You'll take ownership of engineering designs, documentation and quality assurance across pump stations, odour control units and process equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
This role will see you lead projects from concept to completion. Collaborating with design engineers, project managers and stakeholders to deliver practical, innovative, and future-ready solutions. You'll also mentor junior team members, contribute to continuous improvement and drive technical excellence across the design function.
Key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
* Prepare and review detailed mechanical designs, drawings and documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
* Ensure all designs comply with water authority, council and Australian standards.
* Lead design input for water and wastewater process equipment, including pumps, valves, dosing systems and odour control.
* Conduct simulations, calculations and design reviews with support from structural and process engineers.
* Collaborate with drafters and design engineers to achieve successful project outcomes.
* Support digital transformation initiatives and maintain design libraries, templates and standards.
* Provide technical support during construction, ensuring designs are practical, safe and efficient.
* Mentor and support the development of design team colleagues.
* Contribute to innovation, efficiency and continuous improvement within the design process.
About You
You are a technically skilled and experienced mechanical engineer who thrives on delivering complex designs in the water and wastewater sector. With a strong understanding of process equipment and practical design standards, you can confidently lead projects while balancing technical precision with time and cost constraints.
Your collaborative mindset, problem-solving ability and communication skills allow you to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and engage stakeholders at all levels. You are motivated by technical excellence, continuous improvement and the opportunity to make a lasting impact through sustainable infrastructure solutions.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering design, ideally in water/wastewater infrastructure.
* Strong technical knowledge of pumps, valves, chemical dosing, odour control and related process equipment.
* Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD); familiarity with Plant 3D, Revit and Navisworks is highly desirable.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver compliant, efficient and innovative designs across multiple projects.
* Proven problem-solving and time-management skills in dynamic project environments.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, with a collaborative and mentoring approach.
* Knowledge of Australian standards, water authority specifications, and design compliance frameworks.
At Aquatec, you'll join a collaborative design team at the forefront of water infrastructure delivery. This role offers the chance to lead mechanical design on complex projects, mentor the next generation of engineers and contribute directly to sustainable water solutions that support communities across Australia and New Zealand.
