Choir director for community pop choir

Newcastle
Soul Song Choirs
Posted: 12 December
Offer description

We are seeking passionate and dynamic Choir Directors who are keen to lead their own vibrant community pop choir. As a part‑time role, this is an excellent opportunity for a skilled musician to share their love of singing and build community through the power of music.

We are not formal or classic choirs but are vibrant and energetic singing spaces that allow everyone to find their voice, regardless of their experience or ability.

We are looking for a Musical Director who is able to run our established Newcastle Choir (currently on Tuesday evening) with the option to also start additional choirs in the region) or additional Musical Directors who are keen to start a new choir in the region.

While experience in teaching choirs is an advantage, it's not a mandatory requirement. We look more for the energy and vibe of our Directors and their ability to be vibrant entertainers than for formal choral teaching experience.

What you'll be doing

Conducting weekly 2 hour choir rehearsals to teach our pop repertoire and prepare the choir for performances

Working to weekly rehearsal plans provided by Soul Song HQ (an average of approx 2 hours prep each week)

Building a positive and inclusive choir culture, encouraging participation and collaboration

Preparing the choir for public performances and events throughout the year

Creating a vibrant and dynamic community of singers who want to sing for the joy of it

No admin or membership management We'll take care of all the paperwork, insurance, membership management, repertoire selection and much more so all you have to do is the best bit - get people singing

What we're looking for

Proven experience as a choir director or musical leader, preferably with a community-based choir is ideal but not necessarily essential. If you're new to this but keen, get in touch and let's chat anyway

Dynamic personality and strong performance skills to engage and entertain your singers. We can't emphasise this enough

Sound choral conducting and rehearsal techniques, with the ability to motivate and inspire singers

Strong musical skills, including sight-reading, vocal coaching, and arranging music

Familiarity with a wide range of musical styles, from pop to contemporary

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build a positive and inclusive choir culture

Passion for sharing the joy of singing and creating meaningful musical experiences for the community

What we offer

At Soul Song Choirs, we are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for our choir members and staff. As the Musical Director, you will have the opportunity to shape the lives of your choir members and make a positive impact on the local community. We offer a competitive hourly rate, great working conditions, and the chance to be a part of a vibrant and welcoming national choir community.
