We're partnering with a well‐established general insurer to appoint a Legal Counsel into their Melbourne‐based in‐house team.This is a broad, hands‐on role working closely with a highly regarded Head of Legal & Company Secretary, supporting legal advisory across the business while playing a key role in regulatory, commercial and governance matters.Main focus areas:Provide pragmatic legal advice to senior stakeholders across the businessSupport AFS licensing obligations and broader financial services regulatory complianceDraft, review and negotiate commercial contracts with third parties and suppliersAdvise on Corporations Act, insurance legislation and Australian Consumer LawLiaise with regulators including APRA, ASIC and AFCASupport legal aspects of projects, submissions and business initiativesWork closely with Risk & Governance on cross‐functional mattersDrive continuous improvement across legal processes, workflows and knowledge managementThe ideal candidate:Australian qualified lawyer with an unrestricted practising certificate2 – 5 PQE (flexible) across financial services, insurance or corporate/commercial lawStrong understanding of regulatory frameworks (AFSL, Corporations Act, insurance)Ability to translate technical legal advice into clear, commercial outcomesConfident stakeholder manager with strong communication skillsComfortable working autonomously in a lean, collaborative teamKey selling points:Broad, end‐to‐end in‐house legal exposure (not siloed)Strong mentorship from their experienced Head of Legal and Senior Legal CounselStable, well‐backed organisation with global backingFlexible hybrid working environmentGenuine opportunity to grow and shape your in‐house legal career#J-18808-Ljbffr
