Job Description
The Role
Working with the VP and AVP of Protection Pricing in Australia, this role will be responsible for actuarial pricing for protection business written in Australia by Pacific Life Re Australia (PLRe Aus).
The focus will be on pricing Retail and Direct-sold business, especially for an existing, long-term client. Responsibilities include managing new business and in-force pricing processes, and supporting related projects and initiatives for the client.
You will collaborate with teams such as Underwriting, Claims, Data Analytics, Marketing, Back-office, and our technology partner UnderwriteMe. Building a direct relationship with the client to develop and deliver innovative, sustainable growth solutions is key. The role encompasses both reinsurance and direct insurance pricing, requiring a deep understanding of the Australian retail market distribution landscape.
You will lead a team of analysts and actuaries, fostering their technical skills. Support will be provided by a global Pricing team and local teams focusing on Group Risk and other retail business.

Pricing Manager Responsibilities
1. Assess opportunities from a pricing and risk perspective, considering business strategy.
2. Support marketing and business development by maintaining effective client relationships and promoting our brand.
3. Manage projects and quotes independently, with minimal support from senior colleagues.
4. Derive assumptions for new benefits/risks using expert judgment.
5. Challenge assumptions within pricing and across teams, organizing discussions to reach consensus.
6. Provide leadership and mentorship within the team, supporting junior members’ development.
7. Communicate effectively with stakeholders throughout the quote process, articulating pricing outcomes clearly and confidently.
8. Develop a deep understanding of the markets and risks involved.
Qualifications & Experience
1. FIAA or equivalent status.
2. Experience in reinsurance or direct insurance pricing roles.
3. Strong understanding of actuarial principles and processes.
4. Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.
5. Good organizational and time management skills.
6. High focus on innovation.
7. Enthusiastic, driven, and focused.
8. Experience with Australian retail and direct-sold protection portfolios (e.g., Death, TPD, Critical Illness, IP).
9. Knowledge of the Australian market, including product terms and pricing approaches.
10. Experience with systems like SQL, Tableau, Python/R, and strong Excel/VBA skills.
11. Mentoring skills to develop junior team members.
