Astute Early Years Specialists are leaders in Childcare Management and consultancy services. We provide advice and support to approved providers, service owners, centre managers and teams to ensure compliance, and streamlined operations.
PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:
The People and Culture Advisor provides hands-on, operational HR support to all centres and the Astute Head Office, and is the primary HR contact for centre managers and staff. This is a generalist role focused on HR operations including policy and procedure, employment conditions, recruitment, compliance, and people management in a fast-paced, child-focused environment. A key focus of the position is providing accurate and timely advice and support that meets the individual needs of individual centres. The People and Culture Advisor role is also the subject matter expert and administrator for the HRIS Employment Hero.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

HR Services
* Establish and proactively maintain a positive working relationship with Astute staff and Centre managers
* Provide high quality, timely advice and services on a range of HR operational matters including policies, leave, entitlements and other employment matters
* Ensure Astute and Centre Managers and informed of legislative/award changes that may impact operations
* Monitor probation and performance review requirements
* Ensure HR policies and procedures are compliant and reflect best practice people management
* Provide advice on performance management and disciplinary matters
* Ensure position descriptions are accurate and fit for purpose
* Conduct exit interviews and report on trends impacting Astute and centres
* Initiate the onboarding process for new centre employees in Employment Hero
* Draft employment contracts for approval
* Update employee level and pay rates based on milestones (anniversaries, birthdays, qualifications) and coordinate with payroll for processing
* Support the continuous improvement of all human resource related processes and systems, promoting effective and efficient ways of working
* Identify innovative solutions to enhance employee engagement and overall organisational effectiveness.
Recruitment
* Provide administrative support for Centre Managers/Hiring Managers throughout the recruitment lifecycle including drafting & posting of job advertisements, monitoring applications, screening & shortlisting to hiring manager
* Coordinate interviews and conduct reference checks
* Maintain the recruitment cycle processes via Employment Hero, ensuring status for each role is current and all activity recorded
* Effectively manage job boards (SEEK, Jora, Indeed & WorkinAus).
* Act as the central point of contact for all Centre teams for recruitment related requirements/activity
* Develop and maintain recruitment tools and processes
* Manage the onboarding process including following up where required to ensure completion by new employees
* Identify and make improvements to the onboarding process to meet centre needs
* Play a key role in refining recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent, ensuring a positive candidate experience.
* Set up computer and software access for new Astute employees including creation of Astute email signature.
General HR Administration (including systems)
* Build & maintain expertise in the HRIS Employment Hero, maximise functional capability and usage, maintain currency with system updates
* Communicate new system functions/upgrades to appropriate stakeholders
* Provide Employment Hero training to new Leaders
* Maintain the Astute Organisation Chart - updating as part of the onboarding processes
* Participate in/contribute to various projects as required and directed by Manager
* Opportunity to lead or co-lead HR initiatives that support organisational growth and team development
* Assist with general office administration tasks such as answering incoming calls, ordering office suppliers, responding to requests for assistance from the Director
Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)
* Ensure a safe working environment for self and others, including when working from home
* Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and AEYS WHS Policy
* Identify and report on incident and injury trends within centres
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED (KEY SELECTION CRITERIA)
Qualifications and licences:
* Qualifications in Human Resources or related field (or equivalent experience)
* 3-5 years generalist HR experience ideally in multi-site childcare/education environment
* Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
* Open and current drivers’ license preferred
Knowledge & Skills
* Sound knowledge of and the ability to interpret and provide tailored advice on a range of HR policies, procedures, conditions of employment, Awards and the Fair Work Act
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of different stakeholders
* Excellent interpersonal skills, customer focus with a friendly and professional manner
* Excellent organisation and time management skills with attention to detail
* Proficiency in the use of HRIS and well-developed MS Office skills
* Good working knowledge of recruitment, employment contracts, onboarding, performance management and WH&S practices
* Demonstrated ability to manage a range of stakeholder requirements, work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
* Ability to use and apply judgement to manage HR operational matters
