About the Role
This is a full-time position based in our Mulgrave office in Melbourne, responsible for managing BYD’s vehicle import and export operations across Australia and New Zealand. The role primarily focuses on import activities, with additional responsibilities including vehicle exports, ATA Carnet temporary imports/exports, vehicle returns to China, and inter-regional vehicle transfers between Australia and New Zealand. The successful candidate will work closely with customs brokers, freight partners, and internal teams to ensure accurate documentation, efficient customs clearance, and smooth vehicle logistics operations.
Reporting Line
This role reports to the International Trading Department at BYD HQ (Thailand/China).
Key Responsibilities:
1) Import & Export Operations
* Manage daily import operations for complete vehicles across Australia and New Zealand.
* Handle export processes when required, including ATA Carnet, re-export, and regional vehicle transfers.
* Prepare and review shipping documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Monitor customs clearance, quarantine inspections, warehousing, and inland transportation to ensure timely vehicle delivery.
2)Port & Biosecurity Coordination
* Work closely with customs brokers and port authorities to manage customs and biosecurity inspections (AQIS/DAFF).
* Coordinate relevant parties when inspection issues arise to resolve problems quickly, minimise additional costs, and avoid delays in vehicle delivery.
3) Internal & External Coordination
* Liaise with external partners including customs brokers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and warehouse providers.
* Collaborate with internal teams including logistics, warehouse, finance, sales, and business operations.
* Proactively resolve documentation or clearance issues to maintain efficient operations.
4) Data Management & Process Improvement
* Maintain accurate import/export documentation and vehicle movement records.
* Support process improvement initiatives and system optimisation within logistics platforms (e.g., SAP, TMS, GTS).
Requirements & Qualifications:
* Fluent in both English and Chinese (Mandarin)
* 2–5 years’ experience in automotive, logistics, supply chain, or customs brokerage
* Strong knowledge of Australian and New Zealand import regulations, customs clearance, and port operations
* Experience managing import/export documentation (e.g. invoices, packing lists, bills of lading)
* Familiarity with AQIS/DAFF biosecurity inspections or quarantine clearance
* Knowledge of ATA Carnet, temporary import/export, or bonded warehouse procedures is advantageous
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with systems such as SAP or TMS preferred
* Strong coordination and organisational skills with attention to detail
* Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident preferred
