This is an On Island Position.
The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.
The Role
The overall purpose of this role is to manage the efficient running of the warehouse to meet operational targets. In addition to this you will be responsible for supporting the business through its growth by developing and executing strategic initiatives, focused on maximizing operational efficiencies.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working with the leadership team, the primary responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to;
* Managing day-to-day warehouse operations, including inventory control, order fulfilment, and logistics.
* Leading and supervising warehouse staff to optimise productivity and ensure high standards of performance.
* Implementing best practices for inventory management, ensuring accuracy in stock levels and minimising wastage.
* Developing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and service providers to facilitate smooth operations.
* Coordinating the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods to meet organisational requirements.
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations within the warehouse environment.
* Conducting regular audits to assess inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
* Preparing reports on warehouse activities, including stock levels, order processing times, and team performance metrics.
* Moving of all stock including loading, unloading, stock transfers, inventory location changes and the setting up of all new locations
* Booking of external stock dispatch as instructed
* Security of the warehouse and all inventory whilst unattended.
The Council Warehouse complies with the relevant State and Federal Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and Council policies.
Skills and Experience
* Previous experience as a warehouse Manager or a similar management position with at least 3 years demonstrated experience in distribution/fulfilment operations
* Experience in logistics
* Willingness to be a hands-on leader with the ability to create a hard-working, harmonious team
* Strong working knowledge of warehouse operations and management
* A high level of problem solving, organisation and attention to detail skills,
* An exceptional work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude
* Strong interpersonal, leadership, organisation, and planning skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with a strong focus on accuracy and real time data
* Time management skills and a commitment to task completion
* A current drivers and forklift license
