About the Role:

Join Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) as a Project Coordinator (Indigenous Engagement) in this part-time role (0.8 FTE, 4 days per week) on contract until December

You'll lead the development and coordination of culturally safe Indigenous engagement and governance processes, managing projects that support community-facing programs and future research activities. Working closely with Aboriginal communities across the Goldfields, you'll ensure culturally appropriate engagement that builds trust and lasting partnerships.

Your responsibilities will include:

Project Management

* Coordinate assigned projects using appropriate methodologies to achieve defined outcomes
* Develop business cases, project initiation documentation, timelines, and evaluation methods
* Manage work plans, budgets, and resources while monitoring costs and performance
* Identify and manage project risks and impacts
* Prepare progress reports and documentation for stakeholders
* Facilitate stakeholder meetings, focus groups, and project events

Indigenous Engagement

* Support culturally appropriate engagement with Aboriginal Elders, community members, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs)
* Build and maintain constructive relationships with community partners through respectful, consistent communication and adherence to cultural protocols
* Maintain contact databases and engagement logs to ensure relationship continuity
* Facilitate yarning circles and storytelling sessions to identify community research priorities
* Advise on data sovereignty approaches and support establishment of an Aboriginal research advisory group

What You'll Deliver:

* Culturally safe engagement and governance processes
* Effective project coordination from initiation through evaluation
* Strong stakeholder relationships built on trust and cultural respect
* Clear documentation of community priorities and engagement activities
* Strategic advice on Indigenous research governance

SELECTION CRITERIA

Who we are looking for:

1. Completion of a relevant degree with considerable relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and/or education/training.
2. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to coordinate and implement project plans to achieve desired outcomes within resourcing constraints.
3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to consult and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people and with cross cultural sensitivity.
4. Demonstrated high level written communication skills with the ability to construct clear and concise project reports.
5. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and often competing tasks with attention to accuracy and detail within deadlines.
6. Proven ability to work well in a team, including respecting difference, leading and supporting others, accepting direction, and working to group goals.
7. Demonstrated effective decision making and problem solving skills.

Area Specific Criteria

1. Understanding of the social issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the intersectionality pertaining to health parity outcomes.
2. Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within a health context.
3. Excellent understanding of the determinants of Indigenous health and wellbeing and the impact of health inequities.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the meaning of data sovereignty.

Desirable Criteria

* Project management certification.
* Previous experience in a tertiary environment.
* Familiarity with regional, rural and remote Australian contexts.

Role Requirements:

* As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
* Part-time (0.8 FTE), 4 days per week – preferably Monday to Thursday.
* Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction
* This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
* Interstate and/or overseas travel may be required.
* Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.

Your new team: Curtin University - Goldfields University Departments of Rural Health (GUDRH) University Departments of Rural Health (also known as UDRHs) are academic centres based in rural and remote Australia. Established in 2023, the Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) aims to strengthen the supply, capability, and impact of healthcare graduates in the Goldfields region and in doing so, help address healthcare disparities in our rural communities.

Operated by Curtin University in collaboration with the Western Australia Country Health Service and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations), GUDRH receives funding from the Department of Health and Aged Care under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.

The GUDRH's focus is multifaceted and includes:

1. Raising awareness of, and fostering access to, health science careers
2. Providing enriching and positive rural placements for current health science students
3. Supporting the enhancement of local health professionals' capabilities, especially in the area of clinical supervision
4. Conducting rurally relevant research
5. Expansion of health science degrees and qualifications on offer at the Kalgoorlie Campus.

The activities of the GUDRH are underpinned by interprofessional learning to promote collaborative care practices, vital for maximising rural health care outcomes. The GUDRH also prioritises education in the area of Aboriginal health and wellbeing, culturally safe ways of working, and the place of traditional medicine, to help support improved health outcomes for Aboriginal communities.

As a recently established entity within Curtin University's Faculty of Health Sciences, the GUDRH is at a key point in its evolution.
