Job Description
The Principal Botanist plays a pivotal role within the Queensland Herbarium and Biodiversity Science unit, providing scientific leadership, management, and strategic guidance to support the development and operations of the Herbarium's collections and associated databases.
* Lead, manage, and support the Queensland Herbarium collections team and its volunteers.
* Enhance, manage, and maintain the Queensland Herbarium's irreplaceable 930,000 plant and fungi specimen collections and associated databases.
* Provide strategic leadership and manage complex projects that involve diverse stakeholder groups, balancing conflicting priorities and emerging issues.
* Provide timely and high-quality technical and scientific information and advice to support policy, legislative, and other issues.
This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. The successful candidate will have a strong background in botany or a related field and be able to demonstrate expertise in collection management, taxonomy, and conservation biology.
