Job Description
* Work within a large State Government Department
* Contract opportunity with potential for long term extension
* Prepare and manage fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations, including Paid Parental Leave Scheme (PPLS), payroll, Superstream, long service leave, and Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
* Complete journals, clearing accounts, and registers while ensuring compliance with financial policies and standards.
* Monitor and assess the department's general ledger through controlled reviews and reconciliation exercises.
* Perform accrual sampling by investigating supporting documentation to ensure compliance with internal controls and accuracy in financial transactions.
* Within the Financial Accounting unit, assist in preparing interim and 30 June financial statements, including analytical reviews of material movements.
* Prepare quarterly Tridata reporting submissions to Treasury and other financial reports, ensuring alignment with organisational and regulatory requirements.
* Support clients by preparing correspondence, managing open item management in SAP, and providing guidance on financial policies, procedures, and operational issues.
* Review policies, practices, and procedures to identify opportunities for business improvement and internal control enhancements.
* Contribute to a collaborative team environment by assisting colleagues, undertaking research and analysis of complex financial and general ledger issues, and implementing effective solutions to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
* Building and maintaining effective, co-operative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Regions, Divisions and Business units and external agencies.
The Successful Applicant
To be successful in the role you should have:
* Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and practices for financial management.
* Demonstrated ability in financial support services including the use of general ledger and financial reporting, systems, spreadsheets and associated database applications
* An ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.
* Personal commitment and prioritisation skills to achieve deadlines within agreed timeframes and competing priorities.
* Demonstrate knowledge and skills in analysis, investigation, experience and judgement to make informed recommendations and provide strategic advice.
* Although not mandatory, a degree or equivalent in accounting, commerce or business administration is highly desirable.
* Membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants or a similar professional body would also be highly regarded.
