About the Role

The Head of Academic Unit for the Child Psychiatry unit in the Infant and Adolescent Mental Health Service will provide leadership and research capacity to improve outcomes for children and adolescents. This includes clinical assessments, intake assessments for clinical trial patients, liaison with SWSLHD staff, work on the eHealth interface, and ethics, governance, and database work. The position will also support research projects and translate evidence into clinical practice and policy.
Responsibilities
• Lead and manage clinical and research activities in the Child Psychiatry unit.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative clinical assessments and intake evaluations for research participants.
• Coordinate with families, clinical staff, and other SWSLHD teams.
• Develop and oversee eHealth interface projects, ethics applications, governance documentation, and database maintenance.
• Provide research support, grant proposal assistance, and communication of findings to practice and policy stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
• Relevant qualification or registration in a mental health discipline (Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, etc.).
• Proven experience in conducting or managing research projects in child and adolescent mental health.
• Understanding of methodological approaches, research ethics, and grant processes.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer applications for research.
• Australian C‑class driver's licence (P1 or P2 included) with NSW transfer requirement if not originally from NSW.
• Eligibility to work in Australia and willingness to comply with vaccination and child‑safe employment requirements.
