The Provisional Fellow iis a role to provide effective obstetric and gynaecological services to the patients of the Hunter New England Local District, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities with the aim of progressing to the Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).
The Maternity and Gynaecology Service based at John Hunter Hospital under the Hunter New England Health District.
The Maternity and Gynaecology Service has 48 Obstetric beds (with an additional 15 flexible beds) and performs 4000+ deliveries per annum.

As the Lead Trainee within the Maternity and Gynaecology Service, the Provisional Fellow holds a key leadership and coordination role. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day clinical and operational requirements of Junior Medical Officers within the service, in close collaboration with Consultant/s. The Fellow plays an integral role in workforce planning, attending strategic and financial meetings, and supporting trainee wellbeing through a strong pastoral focus. Although the role involves day to day staff management as part of the Medical Rostering team, formal rostering and overtime organisation are performed by the Consultants. Additionally, the role includes active involvement with the Director of Postgraduate Training and Provisional Fellow (Education) to ensure that education and training objectives are effectively delivered and maintained across the department.
The clinical role will satisfy the clinical opportunities for Generalist Obstetrics, Advanced Obstetrics or Essential O&G Skills advanced Training Modules (ATM). This role can be adapted to suit the interests of the individual in consultation with the Director of Postgraduate Training and the Directors of Obstetrics or Gynaecology, within the context of a generalist O&G environment provided by a Level 6 Maternity and Gynaecology service. The Provisional Fellow takes a leadership role in ward rounds and management of complex antenatal or postpartum inpatients. They participate fully in the after hours rosters covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The role includes a contribution to daytime Birth Suite, Caesarean lists, initial maternity assessment and planning (IMAP) visits, and complex medical antenatal clinic coverage.
* Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
* Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
* Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent communication, clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
* Demonstrated advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences
* Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology/Maternal Fetal Medicine
* Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
