About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor with a background in occupational hygiene, to lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of occupational hygiene initiatives across the University.

In this specialist role, you will apply your technical expertise to identify, assess and manage occupational hygiene risks, provide advice, and partner with academic and professional stakeholders to create safe, healthy learning and working environments for staff, students and contractors.

You will design and oversee a robust occupational hygiene risk management framework, support education and capability-building across the University, and ensure alignment with legislative requirements, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, and industry best practice.

This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with Faculties, operational areas, and external specialists to deliver complex hygiene projects and drive effective risk mitigation across the University.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Provide expert occupational hygiene advice to managers and staff in the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures and systems
* Interpret, communicate and ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards
* Design, implement and continuously improve occupational hygiene risk management strategies and programs
* Conduct and review hygiene-related risk assessments and recommend effective controls using the hierarchy of control
* Collect samples for offsite analysis (e.g. asbestos, mould, dust) and evaluate results
* Analyse incidents, hazards and safety data, prepare reports, and monitor corrective actions to completion
* Plan and deliver workplace inspections, audits, health hazard control audits, and assurance activities
* Manage and coordinate the maintenance and calibration of occupational hygiene monitoring equipment
* Provide practical, evidence-based guidance to staff, students, supervisors and contractors
* Develop and deliver occupational hygiene education and training programs tailored to local needs
* Contribute to health and safety communications, promotional materials, committees and working groups

Who we are looking for/Selection Criteria:

You are a confident occupational hygiene professional with strong technical expertise and the ability to influence across a large, complex organisation. You bring:

1. Extensive experience in occupational hygiene and WHS risk management
2. Sound knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and standards
3. Demonstrated experience delivering hygiene programs, audits and monitoring frameworks
4. Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills
5. The ability to provide clear, practical advice and education to diverse audiences
6. Relevant qualifications in occupational hygiene, H&S or a related discipline (postgraduate and/or professional certification highly regarded)

Role Requirements:

1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
