Position Information
Dubbo South Public School is a large primary school in the Western area. The school mission statement is “Together, we champion each child’s potential within an inclusive learning community.” The school has excellent facilities, which include well maintained classrooms, hall, 3 undercover play areas, large play equipment and an Outdoor Learning Garden Area. The school has a very proactive P&C; which supports the school in many ways and operates a fulltime healthy canteen. Dubbo South has an excellent reputation, based on a vibrant learning environment and an enthusiastic, committed and caring staff who provide a wide choice of academic, social, cultural and sporting activities for approximately 580 students.
Special features of our school include extension Literacy and Numeracy classes for Years 1 to 6, a fully integrated Stemcell learning space where lessons include robotics and coding; the use of interactive technology across all classes and a specialist Japanese and music teacher.
The school has a Special Education Unit with 4 classes to provide specialist support for students with more complex needs. We are proud of our Aboriginal Cultural programs where students Connect to country as well as support for our students from a non-English speaking background. Our students are involved in many outside competitions and participate at many events and competitive levels – sporting, creative and academic.
We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning school where school expectations of Respect, Care, Responsibility and Cooperation are taught and practiced across our school community. Special Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex behavioural needs, moderate and mild intellectual disabilities and autism.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills to engage with, build trust and connect with various stakeholders in a dynamic setting catering for the educational provision of a range of students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated capacity and experience in leading teachers to develop and implement cutting-edge and differentiated learning programs, including Personalised Learning and Support plans, designed to improve outcomes for all students K-6 with additional learning and support needs.
- Relevant, demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring and inspiring staff capacity in promoting student wellbeing to meet the diverse developmental, behavioural and educational needs of students with disabilities.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
