**Position Information**:
John Hunter Hospital School is an educational facility for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 school for specific purposes providing educational services for all students admitted to John Hunter Children's Hospital.

The ward includes 72 beds with an enrolment of up to 72 students.

Additionally, the school supports, day stay, Ronald McDonald House and outreach to Maitland Hospital.

The school operates as part of a multidisciplinary team which may include parents and other family members, medical staff including social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and/or child life, music and therapists.

Students may be hospitalised due to illness, accident or trauma, for medical procedures, or for emotional or behavioural reasons.

The central purpose of the school is to provide an engaging, stimulating and supportive workplace, assisting students to maintain educational continuity and to experience a smooth transition back to their census school.

For students who are hospitalised for extended periods, a planned and supported transition program is offered.

Staff employed at John Hunter Hospital School are required to comply with the Category A Worker vaccination package, which is available on request.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.
- Proved capacity to provide exceptional case management for students with additional needs, engaging with multidisciplinary teams to support students, families and educators.
- Successful leadership of technology based teaching and learning to enhance engagement and opportunities for all students.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1.

High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2.

Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3.

High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4.

Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5.

Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6.

Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
