Who are we looking for?
The School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences includes the disciplines of Sport and Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education, Nutrition and Dietetics and Clinical Exercise Physiology.
The School is looking to establish a pool of sessional academics to support the teaching of various units within the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology degree.
Expressions of interest are being sought for sessional academics to support the teaching and learning activities in the following areas: cardiorespiratory, renal and metabolic disorders; musculoskeletal, neurological and occupational disorders; oncology and mental health disorders; clinical skills and exercise physiology business practice.
What do you need to succeed?
Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet 1 of the essential criteria below:
A qualification at honours level or higher in exercise physiology (e.g., Masters or PhD), or
Current enrolment in postgraduate study (e.g., Masters or PhD in a relevant field), or
Equivalent relevant professional experience in exercise physiology in the specific area(s) of teaching
For the purposes of this expression of interest, relevant professional experience refers to industry-based clinical experience or academic experience that directly supports the learning outcomes of the unit(s) being taught. This will include, but is not limited to:
Accreditation as an Exercise Physiologist with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA)
Experience in a relevant healthcare setting (e.g., hospital, community, public, private, university clinic, single disciplinary, multidisciplinary, or interprofessional clinic)
Experience working with specific populations or clinical conditions relevant to unit content (e.g., cardiorespiratory, renal or metabolic disorders, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, cancer, mental health, aged care, or other relevant)
Supervising students on placement or providing clinical mentoring in exercise physiology or allied health contexts
Delivery of continuing professional development (CPD), workshops, or professional education for exercise professionals or students
Involvement in applied research, clinical trials, or quality improvement projects in exercise science, exercise physiology or health-related fields
Experience contributing to assessment, curriculum development, or education delivery in vocational or higher education contexts
Applicants must also demonstrate
A minimum of 1 year of equivalent relevant professional experience (as defined above)
A strong understanding of the ESSA AEP scope of practice and evidence-based practice principles
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage students or learners in learning activities, feedback, and reflective practice
Commitment to inclusive education and cultural safety, including sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds and learning needs
Willingness to undertake a QUT staff induction and complete mandatory compliance training (e.g., Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, Respect and Inclusion).
Desirable Criteria
Prior university teaching or tutoring experience, particularly in clinically-focused or practical-based units
Experience in case-based learning, simulation, assessment marking, or providing formative feedback to students
Familiarity with university learning management systems (e.g., Canvas)
Active engagement with professional bodies or contribution to continuing education activities in the exercise physiology profession
