Toowoomba West Special School is a welcoming and inclusive state school for Prep to Year 6, dedicated to helping students build independence through engaging, personalised learning. We place a strong focus on developing social skills and communication, working closely with families to create meaningful, age-appropriate programs. About the Role
As key members of the school support staff, the successful applicants will contribute to creating a caring and supportive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs and will support individuals and small groups in classroom settings, all under the direction of teachers.
Supporting students individually and in small groups to work towards goals outlined in Individual Behaviour Support Plans, Individual Curriculum Plans, and Targeted Support Plans, under teacher direction.
Preparing classroom resources as directed by teachers.
Supervising individuals and small groups of students as directed by teachers.
Completing required health-related training to support and supervise individual students as needed.
Assisting with health-related needs of students, including administering medication, feeding, and toileting (training provided).
These skills are desirable and preferred but not mandatory for the role:
Strong interpersonal skills
Effective communication and time management skills
Interest and/or experience in working with students with diverse learning needs
High attention to detail, with initiative and motivation to achieve goals
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build strong relationships with a diverse range of people
High energy and physical capability to actively support students in classrooms and play areas
Professional respect for privacy and confidentiality of student and family information
