The Role
The staff specialist Neurologist will provide acute and ongoing clinical management and consultative service to patients with conditions related to Cognitive Neurology and Dementia for Royal North Shore Hospital. Experience in the diagnosis and management of early-onset dementia and atypical cognitive decline is required.
Purpose of the Position The role includes education, supervision and support to junior medical staff; engagement in ongoing quality assurance activities at departmental and network levels as directed by the Head of Neurology and the Director of Medical Services. The position will provide a minimum of one session per week of a Cognitive Neurology & Dementia outpatient clinic at RNSH and will participate in the neurology on-call roster at RNSH. The role will have academic and teaching responsibilities in conjunction with the Northern Clinical Medical School.
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients within a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service, within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.
This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
- Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders: colleagues, direct reports, patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
- Sound clinical knowledge in Neurology demonstrated through successful clinical practice and participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Neurology Consultant, including extensive experience in managing cognitive decline or dementia and familiarity with emerging dementia treatments.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including existing rosters.
- Enrolled in or having completed a higher degree (PhD or Master) in cognition or dementia, with proven ability to establish a service in the public health care sector and understanding of challenges in public hospital outpatient services.
