Achieve Something Great

An outstanding opportunity is available for experienced and passionate mental health clinicians to join the PACER (Police, Ambulance and Clinical Early Response) Team in South Western Sydney.

This is not a traditional clinical role — you will be at the frontline of crisis response, working side by side with NSW Police and NSW Ambulance to deliver rapid, community-based mental health care when it matters most.

As a PACER Clinician, you will respond in real-time to mental health emergencies in the community, providing on-the-spot assessment, intervention, and clinical leadership to support safe, recovery-oriented outcomes. Your work will directly help de-escalate crises, reduce unnecessary ED presentations, and keep consumers supported in their community wherever possible.

Based out of police and ambulance stations, you'll operate in a highly dynamic environment, providing expert consultation and care across a wide range of complex situations. This is a rare opportunity to be part of an innovative, cross-agency model of care that is transforming how mental health services are delivered.

This is a temporary full-time role requiring rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends, offering variety, challenge, and meaningful impact every day.

Why Join PACER?

* Be part of a cutting-edge, integrated emergency response model
* Work autonomously while supported by a multidisciplinary network
* Make a visible, immediate difference in people's lives
* Build strong partnerships with police, paramedics, and community services
* Develop advanced skills in crisis intervention, triage, and complex care coordination

Are You the Right Fit?

We're looking for highly skilled and motivated clinicians who thrive in fast-paced, unpredictable environments and are driven by improving outcomes for people experiencing acute mental health distress.

The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate

* Advanced clinical expertise in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and risk management
* Proven ability to work independently in community settings with confidence and sound judgement
* Strong capability to manage complex presentations, including comorbidity and high-risk situations
* Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with consumers, families, emergency services, and stakeholders
* A collaborative mindset with the ability to build and sustain cross-agency partnerships
* Commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centred, and culturally responsive care
* Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to prioritise competing demands in high-pressure environments

Selection Criteria

* Relevant qualification/ registration in one of the disciplines, as noted in the essential criteria (please refer to the position description)
* Describe your experience assessing and managing people with complex mental health needs in a community or crisis setting. Include how you used clinical judgement, communication skills, and evidence-based practice to ensure safe, person-centred care.
* Provide an example of how you have worked with others (e.g. multidisciplinary teams, external agencies, or carers) to achieve positive outcomes for a consumer. Include how you handled challenges, prioritised care, or contributed to risk management or service improvement.
* Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.

Additional Information

* Temporary visa holders – may be considered if no suitable citizen or permanent resident is found.
* Vaccination Requirements – all staff must meet NSW Health's vaccination and screening requirements before starting.
* Child Safe Employment – South Western Sydney Local Health District is dedicated to fostering a child-safe environment that respects and upholds the rights of children and young people, aligned with NSW Health's commitment to implementing the Child Safe Standards. We aim to ensure that children and young people feel safe, supported, and included in their care. All current and prospective staff are expected to prioritise the safety, welfare, and well-being of children and young people.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer dedicated to accessibility and a supportive recruitment experience.
