The Company
Our client is one of Australia's most recognisable energy infrastructure operators, currently delivering a flagship Future Fuels project at their Brisbane refinery. The build is largely behind them, and the focus has now shifted to completions, commissioning, and Ready for Start-Up in Q3 2026. It is a well-resourced program with a solid project, operations, and engineering team already in place, and a clear runway through to the end of the year.
Your role
This role sits within the Future Fuels Completions and Commissioning team, you will be the mechanical lead on the ground, supporting the safe and efficient start-up of the GTU and Amine Units. The first three months are detailed, planning-heavy work, getting into the dynamic commissioning procedures and building the maintenance work packs that will carry the team through start-up and into early operations. From there, the role transitions into hands-on execution and troubleshooting as the units come online.
Day to day you will be:
* Working through nineteen dynamic commissioning procedures, scoping the maintenance tasks within each one and packaging them up ready for execution
* Building work packs in SAP and P6, sourcing the right gaskets, materials, and lifting requirements, and developing the JSAs and Safe Work Method Statements
* Providing advanced mechanical troubleshooting during start-up and early operations
* Supporting the commissioning team with major rotating and packaged equipment, including compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and skids
* Liaising daily with Operations, Engineering, Construction, and vendor specialists, and partnering closely with the ENI Maintenance Lead to scope multi-discipline work packs
* Leading and mentoring a small group of mechanical technicians, and verifying JHAs, permits, and isolations to MHF standards
Your background & experience
* At least ten years of hands‐on mechanical maintenance experience, ideally gained within a Major Hazard Facility
* Strong background across preventative, corrective, and major maintenance on rotating and static mechanical equipment
* Confident in CMMS, with SAP experience essential
* Comfortable interpreting mechanical drawings and vendor manuals, and applying practical problem‐solving in a live commissioning environment
* Planning experience and a track record of leading or mentoring technicians will set you apart
* Exposure to Howden reciprocating compressors, United or Gould pumps, and welded plate exchangers is a real plus, as is turnaround and inspection start‐up experience
* Background from client‐side, contractor, or O&M; is all welcome. What matters is that you have worked in a major hazard environment, know your way around the tools, and know how to fix things
Benefits to you
* This is a contract engagement through to December 2026
* Hours are Monday to Friday, 6am to 4pm, with occasional Saturday work likely as the program tightens closer to start‐up
* Beyond the practicalities, this is a rare opportunity to plug into a flagship project at the most interesting phase of its life, working alongside an experienced owner's team that takes the work seriously without taking itself too seriously
* Brisbane-based
