What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Member – Radio and Electronic Support.

The Radio and Electronic Support (RES) team is responsible for the provision of project and operational support. This includes troubleshooting and resolution of all radio equipment and systems along with digital record of interview for all AFP users and select Pacific Island nations. The RES team provides project support to AFP operations and assists with installation, implementation and support for AFP projects.

The RES team is recruiting across multiple levels:

* Radio and Electronic Support Specialist (Band 5)
* Radio and Electronic Support Specialist (Band 6)
* Radio and Electronic Support Specialist (Band 7)

Successful candidates will require the ability to travel across the country to engage with and manage remotely located team members.

As a Team Member in the AFP, you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

Team Member duties within Radio and Electronic Support include:

* Providing operational support and technical advice through the acquisition, development, deployment, installation and maintenance of systems for use in Mobile Radio and fixed site communications equipment;
* Maintenance of the mission critical AFP radio network;
* Management of the national radio system using technologies including P25 and WAVE;
* Support the uplift of radio and communications capability through enterprise program management activities;
* Support and provide advice on the planning and implementation of telecommunications devices, networks and systems such as voice, radio, P25 core, two-way, data, microwave, satellite and digital data systems;
* Support and assist the AFP in commercial discussions with State Radio Networks and vendors;
* Issue and return of radios (controlled items) for BAU and special operations;
* Support and assist in the AFP management of encryption for all radio devices;
* Support to operational vehicles and electronic items such as Digital Record of Interview (DROI);
* Assist in the design and implementation of radios systems in Pacific islands; and
* Assist in training of Pacific island technicians through mentoring and face to face delivery.

Essential Requirements

* You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
* A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Band 5

* Certificate 3 (or equivalent/higher) in Electronics and Communications.
* Strong understanding of technologies (Radio Frequencies and Communications).
* Extensive experience and expertise in Information Technology, Radio Engineering or closely related field.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills at the relevant level, with an ability to translate technical information between internal and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to work proactively with other members from all skill levels.
* Ability to self-start and work with minimal supervision.

Band 6
(in addition to the above)

* Minimum of 2 years experience in related field.

Band 7
(in addition to the above)

Minimum of 5 years experience in related field.

* Ability to articulate mentoring and leadership skills.

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

* Experience in P25 communication systems both Trunked and Conventional.

Additional Information

* These positions are AFP Band 5, Band 6 and Band 7 levels.
* There are anticipated vacancies located in Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane. Successful applicants are expected to work from the AFP headquarters in the relevant location and will report into management based in Canberra.
* When applying you will be asked to nominate your
preferred
band levels (maximum two preferences), however final determination of the band level/s you are found suitable for is at the discretion of the panel.
* National travel may be required for this role
