The Role
We are seeking a Maintenance Specialist – Level 2 to provide IT-focused support for roadside tolling systems. This role combines remote diagnostics, system troubleshooting, software/firmware maintenance, and cyber-aware technical operations, with occasional onsite tasks such as equipment checks, gantry access and component replacement.
While some field presence is required, this is not an electrical trade role. Instead, it is designed for someone with strong IT, systems, networking or cybersecurity foundations, who can also work safely in field environments when needed.
You will play a key role in maintaining availability, executing baselines and updates, and ensuring alignment with modern security and systems management practices.
What You'll Do
Level 2 Technical Support (Primary Focus)
* Perform remote diagnostics, log analysis, system checks and fault triage for roadside tolling subsystems.
* Investigate alarms, device health issues, communication failures and performance anomalies.
* Support configuration validation, firmware updates and cybersecurity patching cycles.
* Manage remote access, CLI-based checks and troubleshooting of field controllers and networked devices.
* Escalate complex or systemic issues to engineering (Level 3) with clear technical detail.
Preventive & Lifecycle Maintenance
* Execute scheduled system maintenance including:
* Remote daily health checks
* Baseline updates (BlaaS) and quarterly software/firmware patching
* Validation and pre-deployment testing
* Maintain system documentation, baselines and version records.
* Support the lifecycle management of field hardware and IT components.
Onsite Activities (Secondary, As Needed)
* Visit roadside sites to perform visual inspections, minor hardware replacements, sensor/camera alignment checks, or equipment resets.
* Carry out gantry work safely when required (training provided).
* Verify onsite equipment health, connectivity, cabling integrity and controller status.
* Maintain spares, tools and workshop equipment.
Operational & Cybersecurity Responsibilities
* Support secure configuration practices and ensure devices remain aligned with cybersecurity requirements.
* Assist in vulnerability remediation activities related to field systems.
* Follow change control processes and document maintenance actions accurately.
* Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records and incident reports.
About You
You are an IT-minded, technically capable problem solver with an interest in field technologies, secure systems and operational infrastructure. You are comfortable working with remote system interfaces and occasionally with equipment in the field.
Essential
* Experience in IT support, system administration, network operations or similar technical roles.
* Strong diagnostic and analytical skills—comfortable interpreting logs, system behaviour and performance indicators.
* Familiarity with Windows environments; basic Linux/CLI capability highly regarded.
* Understanding of networks (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, secure remote access).
* Ability to work safely at heights (gantry work) and in roadside environments (training provided).
* Strong documentation, communication and organisational skills.
* Current Australian driver's licence.
Desirable
* Experience with industrial or field-deployed equipment (CCTV, sensors, controllers, SCADA-like systems).
* Awareness of cybersecurity best practices (patching, hardening, certificate handling, secure baselines).
* Experience with firmware updates, field device troubleshooting or embedded systems.
* Exposure to monitoring systems, SNMP tools or network troubleshooting utilities.
