This is a 12‐month fixed‐term, full‐time position (with the possibility of extension or permanency).

This position is based in Geraldton.

The Midwest Region extends along the coast from Lancelin in the south to north of Carnarvon then inland past Meekatharra. The regional headquarters is in Geraldton.

District offices are located at Geraldton, Jurien Bay and Denham, with District work centres at Monkey Mia, Burringurrah, Yulga Jinna, Gascoyne Junction, Kalbarri, Thundelarra, Cue, Cervantes and the Pinnacles. The lands and waters we manage with our Traditional Owner partners are varied and beautiful, from coastal cliffs, dunes, and heath to rich marine communities to outback ranges and vast scrublands.

We currently have an opportunity for a Conservation Employee – Supervisor or Crew Leader – Yamatji Nation to join our team.

Responsibilities

* Supervises and leads Yamatji Nation Aboriginal Rangers, Conservation Employees and contractors in a range of activities related to the department's works programmes including asset maintenance, fire management, conservation, parks and visitor services (PVS) and joint management including remote and overnight work.
* Provides specialist construction advice, quality control/assurance, planning to implement construction and maintenance works in the Murchison District/Midwest Region.
* Develops, plans, organises, and implements on‐ground conservation and PVS projects throughout the Murchison District.
* Undertakes an active role in incident and fire management activities.
* Supports identification of training needs for employees to ensure safe and effective works.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria for the level being applied for; including where possible the desirable criterion as appropriate. These should be addressed in no more than a total of three (3) pages.

* Ability to supervise and coach others (AWU Level 3) or demonstrated ability to lead and supervise others (AWU Level 4) in a range of work programmes, identify training needs, conduct training as appropriate, and promote an environment of continuous learning; with a preference for someone with experience working with Aboriginal people and/or an awareness of Aboriginal culture.
* Ability to plan and implement works programmes in an efficient manner, organise resources, determine day to day priorities and ensure best practice quality control measures are achieved (AWU Level 3).
* Sound knowledge and experience in undertaking projects and works programmes to ensure they are planned and implemented in an efficient manner, which includes an ability to determine and set priorities, organise resources and ensure best practice and quality control measures are implemented (AWU Level 4).
* Experience in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure relevant to the department (AWU Level 4) (Desirable at AWU Level 3).

Prerequisites

* A current Working with Children Check.
* A current Western Australian MR and C class driver's licence.

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status. To be eligible for contract employment, it is essential to have a visa with entitlement to live and work in Australia for the term of the contract.
