About the Opportunity
This is your opportunity to contribute to the integrity of Justice of the Peace services in South Australia through a client-focused regulatory role. As a Senior Client Services Officer, you will play a key role in managing the appointment and conduct of Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Special Justices, as well as overseeing the JP Volunteer Service. You will provide high-quality advice, assess applications, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policy.
The role involves managing complex enquiries, preparing recommendations, and supporting decision-making processes that uphold the integrity of JP services. You will also lead and coach team members, monitor workflows, and contribute to continuous business improvement initiatives. Strong customer service skills are essential, as you will respond to enquiries, manage sensitive information with discretion, and foster positive relationships with stakeholders. Working both independently and collaboratively within the Registration Branch, you will help maintain public confidence in JP services and support the delivery of fair and consistent outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess applications for appointment and reappointment of JPs and Special Justices in line with legislation.
- Provide timely, accurate advice to JPs and stakeholders on legislative and policy requirements.
- Manage escalated and complex enquiries from Client Services Officers.
- Prepare recommendations, correspondence, and submissions for appointments, suspensions, or removals.
- Oversee JP Volunteer Service, including recruitment, rostering, and recognition activities.
- Interpret and apply legislation to make informed and impartial decisions.
- Maintain accurate records and manage sensitive information in accordance with document control procedures.
- Contribute to business process improvements and support training and coaching of staff.
About the Business
The Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) provides a range of legal, regulatory and other services for the government and people of South Australia. Employing around 1500 staff, AGD promotes justice by protecting people’s rights, holding people to account according to the law, improving safety and contributing to an efficient and fair justice system.
Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is a division of the Attorney-General’s Department and is responsible for protecting consumers, supporting and regulating businesses and recording significant life events for South Australians. CBS is customer focused and flexible in its activities, providing accessible information and services. CBS employs around 200 staff and our primary purpose is to facilitate business, protect consumers and record life events. CBS constitutes a large part of South Australia’s business/consumer regulatory system, and is the regulator for many businesses and professions.
The Registration Branch provides an essential service to South Australian’s seeking to register or obtain information on the significant life events of births, deaths and marriages (BDM). The Registration Branch also manages South Australia’s register of Justices of the Peace.
The Senior Client Services Officer operates within a complex and changing environment and is required to exercise a high-level of judgement and decision making in an autonomous role.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
