Job Description - Head Teacher Special Education - Orara High School
Orara High School is a vibrant place of learning for over 890 students located in Coffs Harbour, Mid-North Coast, NSW. The school acknowledges that we learn and work together each day on the land of the Gumbaynggirr people.
The school is proud of the rich cultural diversity among its student body, our staff, and the school community. More than thirty languages can be heard spoken among our students and their families, with over 20% of students having a language background other than English and over 20% of students are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
Students with additional learning and behaviour needs are catered for within our Inclusive Education Unit. Specialist teaching and non-teaching staff work across seven learning spaces, assisting students to develop to the best of their abilities and to transition to rewarding lives beyond their school years.
High academic expectations are supported in the school's focus on literacy and numeracy. The school recognises that attendance plays an important role in the wellbeing and learning of all students.
Responsibilities and Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. The successful applicant will have:
- Proven ability to lead faculty and differentiation of the curriculum, promoting engagement and learning through personalised learning and support plans, and strong literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing programs.
- Proven capacity and significant experience in fostering positive relationships with students, their families and outside agencies to collaborate, develop and implement strategies for individualised support, transition, behaviour and wellbeing of students with additional learning needs.
- Ability to use data and evidence to work with the school executive team on achieving the school's Strategic Excellence Plan and system targets.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing a dynamic faculty of teaching and non-teaching staff, including delivering professional learning to staff that strengthens collaboration, builds capacity, and improves student learning.
General Selection Criteria include successful teaching experience, knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare, educational leadership skills, and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
