Role
An education support class position provides routine support to teachers and students in a secondary school setting. The role does not include teaching duties and is performed under supervision and direction of school staff.
Responsibilities
* Assist teachers with planning and managing student routines.
* Support communication between teachers and parents.
* Provide basic physical care and wellbeing support for students (toileting, meals, lifting).
* Communicate with students to support comprehension of basic tasks and information.
* Address immediate behavioural presentations of students in line with school policy.
* Supervise individuals or groups of up to four students within classroom settings.
* Assist teachers with coordination of educational programs, including rostering and organising the work of a team of aides.
* Act as a liaison with external support service providers regarding defined support needs and resources.
* Provide medical intervention support to students under specific conditions with appropriate training.
* Offer specialised communication support for students and teachers in areas such as AUSLAN and braille.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated capacity to perform duties consistent with established guidelines and frameworks and coordinate support functions.
* Ability to work and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
* High‐level oral and written communication skills.
* Relevant technical knowledge and expertise for the position.
* Capacity to provide advice and support to management and other staff within the work area.
* Commitment to professional learning and growth for self and others.
