We are seeking an exceptional Design Manager to lead and unify design functions across multiple sites nationally. This is a pivotal opportunity for an experienced mechanical design professional to take ownership of design strategy, elevate collaboration across locations, and drive innovation within a growing, market-leading business.
About the role:
In this senior leadership position, you will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to oversee design teams in Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne. Your focus will be on creating alignment, building a culture of technical excellence, and ensuring design projects meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and efficiency.
This is not just about managing processes, its about shaping the direction of a national design function, mentoring future leaders, and spearheading innovation that impacts customers across Australia and beyond.
- Provide vision and leadership to unify design functions nationally under a consistent strategy.
- Build and roll out a design framework that drives collaboration, best practice, and continuous improvement.
- Inspire and mentor design leaders, developing strong, accountable teams.
- Oversee the creation and governance of design standards, tools, and review processes.
- Ensure seamless project delivery by aligning design outcomes with business and client needs.
- Optimise budgets, resources, and capabilities across multiple sites to enhance delivery.
- Troubleshoot challenges, mitigate risks, and ensure smooth progression of projects.
- Collaborate with innovation teams to integrate emerging technologies and deliver value-driven solutions.
Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar technical discipline).
- Solid track record in design management, ideally within machinery, automation, or advanced manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical design principles and modern engineering software.
- Strong leadership and team development experience.
- Proven ability to deliver large-scale, complex projects on time and within budget.
- A passion for fostering innovation, standardisation, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure, dealing with complexity while prioritising effectively.
