About the Role
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) advances Australia's international interests through strong bilateral, regional and multilateral engagement.
This role sits within the Multilateral Strategy and Candidacies Branch (MCB), part of the Multilateral Policy and Human Rights Division. MCB leads Australia's strategic engagement across the multilateral system, including the United Nations, candidacies and elections, peace operations, and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The position supports two key programs: the Multilateral Placements Program (MPP), which deploys APS staff to multilateral organisations to build expertise and influence; and the Multilateral Engagement Grants (MEG), which funds initiatives to strengthen diversity of engagement across the multilateral system.
Key Duties
* Develop, negotiate and manage complex grants, contracts and agreements, in close consultation with DFAT corporate teams and other government agencies.
* Prepare briefs, reports, minutes, and other related documentation relevant to the management of MEG and MPP programs - including corresponding with senior DFAT officials and Ministers - and maintain comprehensive corporate records.
* Advise and deliver on MEG and MPP implementation requirements, including managing selection processes for placements and negotiating administrative arrangements with international organisations.
* Provide ongoing support to Australians placed with multilateral agencies.
* Undertake day-to-day budget management of large complex Grant arrangements, manage payment processing and lead procurements and other corporate processes.
* Develop and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders including multilateral organisations, foreign governments, DFAT desks and posts and other APS agencies.
Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be highly proficient in grants management and procurement processes, including current non-ODA grants processes in the APS, and experienced in managing complex programs. Experience in managing APS recruitment processes will be an advantage.
We seek people with good written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to adapt their style according to the situation, including managing information with discretion. Candidates will be required to work and negotiate arrangements with a range of international stakeholders.
We are looking for team players who can work collaboratively and contribute to an inclusive and supportive team culture. Candidates will be expected to undertake their role with minimal supervision and will receive broad direction from the Assistant Director of the MPP team.
