About Curtin’s School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS)
Formed in 2017, EECMS unites Curtin’s core expertise in electrical engineering, computing, physics, mathematics, and statistics to better understand and advance our data-driven world. As part of Curtin’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, EECMS is one of the university’s largest schools, with a rapidly expanding teaching and research portfolio. About the role
This position offers an exciting opportunity to drive excellence in teaching, research, and leadership in Power and Renewable Energy Engineering. You will play a key role in shaping curriculum initiatives, advancing research, and contributing to governance within the School and the broader university.
As part of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering discipline, you will :
o Deliver high-quality, student-focused teaching in Engineers Australia-accredited Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Professional Engineering programs.
o Supervise student research projects, fostering critical thinking and innovation.
o Provide high-level research leadership, developing and leading impactful research teams and programs.
o Cultivate a vibrant research culture, mentoring emerging researchers and driving collaboration.
o Engage with global campuses and external partners to build a strong international research network.
This role is ideal for an academic or industry leader eager to make a lasting impact in the field of Power and Renewable Energy Engineering.
Specific responsibilities for this Teaching and Research Academic role include :
Teaching
o Foster a culture of teaching excellence, provide leadership in and deliver high quality teaching to undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate students across a range of modes and levels across the School’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Teaching Portfolio.
o Develop and implement scholarly evidence-based approaches to education to ensure best practice in teaching and learning.
o Lead major curriculum initiatives and / or pedagogical developments.
o Contribute to educational policy development at a state and / or national level.
o Supervise the program of study of honours students or postgraduate students engaged in coursework.
o Keep abreast of current discipline theory and practice.
o Develop and deliver professional development courses in both face-to-face and online modes utilising Curtin’s Green Electric Energy Park and IEC6850 digital laboratory.
o Deliver units at overseas partner institutions when and where required.
Research
o Undertake internationally competitive research in the areas of Power Electronics and its applications in Smart Grids, Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Storage Systems and Electrical Drives.
o Lead major competitive funding initiatives working in partnership with industry and government agencies.
o Produce highly productive research outputs and enhance international recognition.
o Contribute to government policy developments at state, national or international levels.
o Undertake principal supervision of research honours, research masters, and research doctoral students.
Service and Leadership
o Contribute significantly to academic service, engagement and the management and collegiality within the University.
o Significantly contribute to and provide leadership in external activities relevant to the School’s strategy and community engagement.
o Assist the school leadership team with ongoing planning, administrative and outreach.

Who we’re looking for – Selection Criteria
Our ideal candidate will satisfy the following Essential Criteria :
o A PhD in Electrical Engineering in a field directly related to the position (Power Electronics).
o Teaching & Mentorship
Academic : Demonstrated excellence in tertiary teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision.
o Industry : Experience in professional training, mentoring engineers, or delivering technical education programs.
o Leadership & Engagement
Academic : Leadership in the discipline at national and international levels, including editorial roles, conference organization, or research collaborations.
o Industry : Leadership in industry at a national or international level, such as senior management, regulatory contributions, or major engineering projects.
o Supervision & Development
Academic : Extensive experience in supervising HDR (Higher Degree by Research) students.
o Industry : Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams or research groups in an industrial setting.
Academic : Strong publication record in leading journals and successful grant funding history.
o Industry : Technical reports, patents, regulatory influence, or commercialization of technology.
Proven ability to collaborate with university, industry, and government stakeholders to drive research, innovation, and funding opportunities.
o Communication & Collegiality
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster a supportive and inclusive working environment and engage effectively across cultures.
o Governance & Policy
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to relevant policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
Role requirements
