We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Tradesperson to join our team at the Portland Smelter. As part of this role, you will play a vital part in safely performing and coordinating mechanical maintenance work, ensuring the efficient operation of our production process.

Key responsibilities include preparation of work scopes, isolations, handover to and from operations, completion of work activities, commissioning, initial running checks and alignments, component change outs, routine and ad hoc maintenance requirements. You will also liaise with internal and external work parties to ensure tasks are completed to required quality and service levels.

Our ideal candidate will have advanced skills and knowledge necessary to isolate, diagnose, analyse and rectify complex equipment-related problems. They will possess strong problem-solving skills, good communication and interpersonal skills to provide technical advice and direction, high levels of initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

About the Role:

In this role, you will be responsible for optimising the performance of the process and equipment by installing, repairing, commissioning, and testing equipment and components. You will utilise your skills, technical knowledge, and methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, and may also direct contractors and audit work quality.

This role aligns with our Reliability Excellence (REX) and Alcoa Business Systems (ABS) methodologies, ensuring that you will be working in a structured and well-organised environment.

What's Required:

* Mechanical - Fitter & Turner - Trade qualification or equivalent;
* Advanced skills and knowledge necessary to isolate, diagnose, analyse and rectify complex equipment-related problems;
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
* High levels of initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team;
* Previous experience in heavy manufacturing/industrial or continuous production environment is advantageous;
* Commitment to environment, health, and safety in the workplace and a willingness to participate in safety improvement initiatives.
