$148,897 + superannuation + regional allowanceThe RoleThe Operations Superintendent will oversee safe and efficient berth and cargo operations at the Port of Albany, including vessel planning, loading/discharging coordination, issue resolution, and stakeholder engagement.
The role drives operational performance, implements improvements based on data, and ensures all activities align with Southern Ports' vision, and values.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork Health & Safety – Ensure compliance with WHS policies, legislation, and procedures; manage incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.Terminal Operations – Oversee berth and cargo operations, optimise terminal efficiency, and support terminal operating systems.Logistics & Trade Facilitation – Identify opportunities to streamline operations and enhance trade facilitation for port stakeholders.Leadership & Team Management – Lead staff and contractors, promote a culture of continuous improvement, and support the Regional Manager as needed.Stakeholder Engagement – Build and maintain strong relationships with port users, shipping agents, contractors, government agencies, and the community.Communication & Coordination – Liaise across teams, run regular meetings, and ensure coordinated service delivery across the Port.Operational Compliance & Permitting – Manage permits, inspections, and compliance for vessels, equipment, and port activities.General Port Services – Oversee KPIs, manage equipment hire and invoicing, coordinate visits (e.g., Navy, cruise ships), and supervise cleaning and maintenance contractors.RequiredShipping, cargo logistics, chartering and supply chain industry experienceExperience in change management, continuous improvement, team building and successful negotiationShipping and cargo logistics industry experienceGood commercial acumenKnowledge of performance management techniquesKnowledge of project management principlesFlexibility and adaptable to the needs of the businessMust be able to work with a vast range of contractors and customersPreparation of reports and the ability to provide presentationsProactive in Health, Safety and environment initiatives and continuous improvementPreferredTertiary qualification or relevant tertiary qualification in logisticsKnowledge of legislation, standards and policies applying to the shipping industryKnowledge of best practice technology and techniques to improve quality and productivityPosition Description:?
