Position Overview
AFCS is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to join our team. The successful applicant will provide high-quality casework and support services to individuals, families and carers, with a focus on culturally appropriate service delivery that upholds dignity, respect, and community connection.
Key Responsibilities
As a Social Worker with AFCS, you will:
* Conduct comprehensive assessments of client needs and develop tailored support plans in consultation with clients and stakeholders.
* Provide direct casework support to individuals, families, and carers experiencing social, emotional or practical challenges.
* Coordinate and facilitate access to community services, counselling, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate support networks.
* Support clients in navigating complex service systems, including health, education, housing, and child & family services.
* Advocate for clients' rights, cultural and social inclusion, and equitable access to services.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, community partners, and external agencies to ensure integrated support.
* Prepare timely, accurate case notes, reports, and documentation in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
* Facilitate community connection and engagement activities that strengthen wellbeing and cultural identity.
* Ensure practice is aligned with organisational values, confidentiality requirements and relevant professional standards.
Selection Criteria / Experience Required
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
* Relevant qualification in Social Work (e.g., Bachelor or Master of Social Work) and eligibility for membership with the appropriate professional body.
* Experience in casework, advocacy and community support services, including work with culturally diverse communities.
* Strong understanding of culturally sensitive practice, particularly within multicultural or CALD service environments.
* Knowledge of relevant service systems such as family support, child welfare, aged care, disability, and community services.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and engagement skills.
* Capacity to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a client-centred environment.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and comply with privacy and professional ethical standards.
