About the Branch
The Litigation and Dispute Resolution (L&DR) Branch is a team of approximately 60 legal practitioners and an additional team of 35 (approx.) legal support staff (including paralegals) that provide specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments.
The Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging litigation and advisory work, working on matters that are topical and often involve public interest issues. Matters cover areas such as personal injury claims (including those involving institutional abuse), police civil claims, coronial inquests, vexatious litigant applications, tortious claims, defamation, post‐sentence supervision and detention orders, judicial review (including those involving prisoners) and matters involving the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Legal Assistant to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch. In this role, you will provide high‐quality legal administrative support to a team of solicitors, contributing to a wide range of legal matters.
This role offers the opportunity to build a long‐term career with strong development and progression pathways. You will also have exposure to high‐profile matters of public interest, allowing you to meaningfully contribute to impactful legal work.
Responsibilities Will Include
* Preparing, formatting and reviewing legal documentation, including correspondence and court documents.
* Liaising with barristers' clerks and preparing e‐briefs for counsel.
* Filing and service of court documents via online platforms.
* Managing files autonomously, including matter‐related administration, monthly billing, and maintaining accurate electronic records.
* Managing team calendars and shared mailboxes.
* Providing general administrative support as required.
Skills And Experience
* Demonstrated experience as a legal assistant within a litigation environment.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
* The ability to provide high quality assistance to a team of solicitors, in a fast‐paced, deadline‐driven environment.
* Strong understanding of legal processes and court jurisdictions, legal terminology, with the ability to conduct research using online databases.
* A proactive and solutions‐focused approach, with strong problem‐solving skills.
* Excellent attention to detail.
