Operations Engineer II – Operations (DevOps Engineer)

Location: Australia - remote

What You Will Do:

As an Operations Engineer II, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing our cloud-based data archival platform. This role requires strong problem-solving, automation, and cloud infrastructure expertise to ensure system reliability, security, and scalability. The ideal candidate will collaborate with software engineers, data analysts, and IT operations to enhance redundancy, improve performance, and manage costs. You will analyze operational data and implement automation solutions that enhance team productivity and delivery quality. You’ll solve moderately complex problems using systematic analysis and collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality solutions. You’ll support process improvements and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Leveraging your skills in process analysis, stakeholder management, and technical implementation, you’ll drive operational excellence and contribute to strategic decisions. Your efforts will directly support team and customer satisfaction, making a measurable impact within your immediate team and projects.


Key Responsibilities:

Customer Support

* Triage and work support requests from customers, while maintaining high standards of service.

* Regular interaction with customers, whether technical staff or end-users, either via e-mail or meetings. No site visits.

* After hours on call support is a key responsibility of the role, and appropriate compensation is provided.

Technical Implementation, Automation Support, & System Monitoring

* Implement and maintain engineering tools, automation systems, and technical solutions that integrate with existing infrastructure.

* Participate in automation initiatives by creating reliable workflows supporting team productivity.

* Monitor system metrics and ensure rapid detection of operational anomalies to ensure system reliability and optimal performance.

* Utilise advanced monitoring to track system health and address potential performance bottlenecks.

* Contribute to implementation of monitoring, logging, and alerting to proactively detect and resolve issues.

Complex Problem Analysis & Resolution

* Examine system log files and performance metrics to identify root causes of issues affecting system reliability and performance.

* Process complex technical information systematically to recognise patterns and create effective solutions for emerging technical challenges.

* Resolve intricate system failures by leveraging analytical thinking and debugging techniques to restore optimal operation.


Business Metrics Analysis & Insight Generation

* Analyze engineering and operational metrics to uncover trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities aligned with business objectives.

* Translate technical process and workflow improvements into measurable business value through contextual reporting and analysis.

* Support market and competitive research initiatives by processing relevant data and providing actionable business context for engineering decisions.

* Contribute to maintaining compliance with security and regulatory standards.

Systems Integration & Data Flow Maintenance

* Maintain integrations between engineering tools and platforms to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability.

* Process integration configurations and examine system architectures to recognize and address automation opportunities.

* Support integration projects by handling connection data and participating in system automation efforts that enhance engineering workflows.

Collaborative Excellence & Cross-Team Support

* Participate in cross-team initiatives to foster collaboration and the achievement of shared operational goals.

* Leverage diverse team perspectives to contribute to process improvements and superior technical outcomes.

Experience You Will Need:

* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

* Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate certification preferred.

* 2 to 5 years of experience in a Technical Support role, with experience in supporting Azure cloud environments.

* Security Certification is a plus

* Prior experience in healthcare IT or data archival solutions is a plus.

Essential Requirements:

* Experience with Azure services including, but not limited to Azure VMs, Azure Functions, Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Storage solutions.

* Proficiency in T-SQL.

* Experience with scripting languages, such as in PowerShell.

* Strong security mindset, understanding of compliance best practices in a cloud environment.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.

* Strong documentation skills for creating detailed reports and maintenance logs.

* Demonstrated ability to analyze and optimize workflows, identifying inefficiencies and recommending automation opportunities.

* Effective collaboration skills, with a track record of building productive relationships and facilitating communication across engineering, product, and leadership teams to drive operational improvements.

* Proficiency in deploying and supporting technical solutions

* Analytical skills to interpret engineering metrics, align technical initiatives with business objectives, and generate insights that inform continuous improvement projects.

* Ability to serve in an on-call capacity on a three-week rotational schedule.

* No travel required
