Leading Hand Tyre Fitter Role at Thiess
We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand Tyre Fitter to join the maintenance crew at our Olive Downs Complex.
About the Role
This greenfield project, located 40 km southeast of Moranbah, commenced mining operations in mid-2023. Thiess has been awarded a five-year contract to deliver comprehensive mining services, including mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul (autonomous), water management, rehabilitation, and infrastructure construction.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and coordinate a team of tyre fitters, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency standards are met.
* Perform and oversee tyre fitting, repairs, and maintenance on heavy mining equipment.
* Monitor tyre performance and coordinate timely replacements to minimize downtime.
* Provide on-the-job training and support to team members.
* Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
* Maintain records of tyre usage, repairs, and inventory.
* Collaborate with management to improve processes and safety measures.
* Troubleshoot tyre-related issues and ensure tools and work areas are maintained properly.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering results in a dynamic environment. You should have:
* A current Tyre Fitting qualification (minimum Certificate III)
* S1, S2, S3, and G2 supervising certificates and experience supervising maintenance on operational mines
* Proven experience as a Tyre Fitter, preferably in mining or heavy industry
* Leadership experience
* Knowledge of tyre fitting, repair, and maintenance procedures
* Strong safety awareness
* Ability to work in physically demanding environments
* Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
* Driver's License (HR desirable)
* High-risk forklift license (desirable)
* Proficiency in Excel and other software (desirable)
