My client, an innovative and fast-growing tech company, is looking for a hands-on Data Engineering Manager to take ownership of their data platform and lead a small, high-impact team. This hybrid role offers the chance to remain close to the technology while also stepping up as a people leader. The successful candidate will thrive in a startup or scale-up environment, balancing speed of delivery with building sustainable systems for long-term growth. Technical Leadership Design and deliver pipelines that ingest from multiple vendors and brokers into BigQuery for downstream use. Partner with the analytics team to create sustainable data products in Dataform. Monitor and improve pipeline health, setting up alerting and runbooks. Measure and report on data quality, supported by guidance from the business. Team Leadership Manage a team of three (Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Data Engineer). Run team ceremonies (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives) and set clear priorities. Mentor and grow team members' capabilities, holding a high bar for operational excellence. Conduct performance reviews and ensure delivery standards are consistently met. Candidate Profile 5 years in Data Engineering, with proven experience building cloud pipelines. Proficiency in SQL and Python. Experience with GCP/BigQuery preferred, but AWS or Azure backgrounds are welcome. Familiarity with dbt or Dataform is an advantage, but not essential. Understanding of infrastructure-as-code and tools such as Docker. 2 years of leadership or team mentoring experience, ideally in a lean, fast-moving setting. Someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys staying close to the tools, and wants to shape a growing data function.
